The Jin Mandir @ Nigadi

It all started in Feb 1985 with registration of a trust “Shree Bhagwan Mahavir Ahinsa Trust” in Nigadi, Pune. Then, there were few Jain families in the neighborhood. The purpose was to create a small platform to come together, start with certain activities, and plan for constructing a Jin Mandir. There was need of a Jin Mandir in PCMC (Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) area.

We started to celebrate Mahavir Jayanti and started planning for construction of a temple. The dream project started on 4th April 1992. We celebrated Mahavir Jayanti (1992) at the same place.

Core Principles

  • The Trust runs on the thinking/philosophy of Dr. Karmveer Bhaurao Patil
  • The temple / trust will not only focus on religious programs but will make significant social contributions
  • The donations would be unconditional (that is donations would find an entry in the book of accounts but no public display of names would be encouraged)

Construction of the Temple

When the work was started in 1992 the plan and the design of the temple was finalized. We drew out preliminary budget. We started with small donations. There has been slow and abrupt flow of donations. It has been quite a journey!

Over the past one and half decades we have spent almost INR 1.25 CR.  The main temple, as can be seen in the picture, is in the final stages. The Pran Pratistha Mahotsav is planned from 22nd Dec 2013 to 26th Dec 2013.  In preparation for the Mohotsav we have to complete the remaining part of the construction work before July 13. The expected expenses for the same are INR 50 Lacs.

Social Activities

  • In July 1992 first program of tree planation was arranged. Now area surrounding the temple has lot of greenery and fully grown trees.
  • Blood donation & eye donation camps are arranged every Mahavir Jayanti Mahostav. We always say "Jite Ji Rakta Dan & Jate Jate Netra Dan"
  • In 1997 on the occasion of "Acharya Anad Rushiji maharaj" the four sects (Panthas) joined hands and founded Pimpri Chinchwad Jain Mahasangh. Through this organization our strength increased multifold & we could organize many more activities
  • Many social programs all over Pimpri Chinchwad were taken up, Some examples:
    • We started Mahavir Food bank which is catering to many NGO's in the form of food (Min. 10,000 kg Gehu/ Chaval etc.)
    • Helped people from Bhooj (Gujarat) during the earthquake
    • Started permanent Panpoi(Drinking water) at Vallabhnagar ST stand in 1998
    • We arranged agitations for closing slaughter house in Pimpri Chinchwad area
  • Our trust adopted poor non Jain ladies student for 2 years in their difficult period & spent for their education
  • One of the adopted students has now passed BE Computer
  • In 1996 we adopted a child in Remand Home at Pune for one year

Through the social work we are trying to spread thoughts of Lord Mahavira : Satya and Ahimsa. Main thing achieved was “unification” and using that increased power for social purpose. Our experience through social work is "Society has very good people” / “everyone is good from within”. We need to cultivate it and give an opportunity.

We celebrate Acharya Shantisagarji Maharaj Punyatithi and Dr.Karmveer Bhaurao Patil Jayani every year. We celebrate Independence Day & Republic Day every year.

In essence, we are active. We ensure that the next generation is made aware of our culture. And we also are helping promote the message of ahimsa in the society.

As recognition of our efforts and our belief our team has been awarded many times by the Municipal Corporation.
